Coming to the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series - RFID Tires.
What? RFID HUH?
This season all of the tires will be implanted with little Radio Frequency Identification unit to assist in the tracking tire inventory. These RFID units replace the current method of a bar code sticker affixed to the side of the tire.
NASCAR has announced that starting in 2006 a program will be implemented capping the number of cars under one ownership group at four cars. That's right Jack four. Not one, not five or six cars but four. Now how Nascar arrived at this magical number is beyond me but they did and four is now the magic number for team owners to adhere to. Those ownership groups will be give ample time by NASCAR to meet these new rules. These NASCAR rules state:
The four-car limit will extend to owners and any affiliate group, which includes situations where one or more of the car owners is entitled to receive, or actually receives, any financial consideration based upon the performance of the cars entered by the other car owners, or has any revenue sharing or ownership stake in the team.

Now come on, you think this is going to prevent a guy like Jack Rousch or Rick Hendrick from being financially involved in other teams even as extended silent partners? (shhhh don't say anything but that team over there is actually owned by this persons brothers cousins uncle.)
NASCAR has announced that impound races will be drastically reduced for 2006 and will only impound for 5 races this season, the Pepsi 400 at Daytona, the two races at Talladega and both Richmond events. In contrast, 21 of 36 races were impound rule races in 2005.
Drastic change? Noooo, That's not a big change at all. Nope. Nada.
This Thursday, 10 current and former NASCAR Drivers will participate in a fund raising event for the US Olympic team at Mount Van Hoevenberg. The list of drivers include Boris Said, Kenny Wallace, Dick Trickle, Steve Park, Randy LaJoie, Kevin LePage, Joel Kauffman, Stanton Barrett and Geoff and Todd Bodine.
Also rumored to participate is current Nextel cup champion Tony Stewart. He was quoted by Associated Press as saying, "I'm hoping I can because I'd really love to, It sounds like a real blast, and I'm really interested in the sport and the people involved in it. It's a really tough sport."
In related news, Bobsledding is the 293 fastest growing sport, 292 places behind NASCAR. It is anticipated by 2085 that Bobsledding will be the biggest sport in the world. Source: My Head
